Cypriot House President Marios Garoyian said he remains hopeful for a solution to the Cyprus problem based on the UN resolutions and the European law.
Garoyian briefed a group of Greek origin children from the United States, recalling that Turkey invaded Cyprus occupying a large part of the island, adding that 36 years after the invasion Turkey continues to occupying a part of Cyprus, violating human rights, maintaining 40,000 soldiers.
He added that Turkey has brought to Cyprus 180.000 settlers and does not accept a solution which would safeguard human rights, the basic freedoms, a solution which would be based on the international law and the EU acquis communautaire.
``We are striving to convince the international community that despite the fact that Cyprus is a small island, it is entitled of peace without its legal inhabitants being deprived of the right to enjoy their properties,`` Garoyian noted.
